This might be the prettiest dog you'll ever color. Cavalier King Charles Spaniels have big, round, dark eyes and long silky ears that almost look like they've been brushed perfectly. They're a small dog, but there's a lot going on in the fur.
There are four official color patterns for this breed. The most famous one is called "Blenheim" - that's chestnut-brown and white.
The other three patterns are tricolor (black, white, and tan), black and tan, and ruby, which is a rich reddish-brown all over.
For a Blenheim Cavalier, start by leaving the white areas blank - the chest, muzzle, and a stripe between the eyes. Then fill in the rest with a warm chestnut brown, pressing a little harder around the edges of each patch so the colors don't blur together. The brown patches usually cover the ears, the back, and parts of the face.
The ears are long, wavy, and hang down past the chin. Use slow, downward strokes and try layering - go over the same area lightly two or three times instead of pressing hard all at once. That gives the fur a soft, silky look instead of a flat block of color.
If you're coloring a ruby Cavalier, the whole body is one warm reddish-brown. That might sound easier, but the trick is making it look interesting. Press lighter on the chest and the top of the head, and darker along the back and under the ears, so the dog doesn't look completely flat.
One small detail that makes a big difference on every Cavalier King Charles Spaniel coloring page - those big round eyes. Use a very dark brown, almost black, and leave two tiny white dots for the shine. It makes them look soft and gentle, which is exactly how these dogs are.
