110 Pumpkins and Jack-o'-lanterns Coloring Pages - Free PDF Printables

By: Crafty Josh | Last Update:

The very first Jack-o'-lanterns weren't pumpkins at all - families in Ireland and Scotland carved faces into turnips. Our Pumpkins and Jack-o'-Lanterns coloring pages follow that story all the way to today's porch pumpkins, with 110 free printable designs you can download as a PDF and print in minutes.

Toddlers get big, friendly pumpkin faces with thick outlines that are great for practicing crayon control. Kids ages 4 to 7 can color pumpkin patch outings, carving night at the kitchen table and silly pumpkin characters, while older kids and adults can take on carved lantern designs, harvest still lifes and moonlit scenes. Every page uses clean line art with fully enclosed shapes, so crayons, markers and colored pencils all work well.

Teachers will find plenty for October classroom activities, and parents get an easy quiet-time option before trick-or-treating. If your child enjoys these, check out our Trick-or-Treat coloring pages and Cute Witches and Black Cats coloring pages too.

5 creative crafts using Pumpkin and Jack-o'-Lantern coloring pages

  1. Glowing window lanterns

The carved design pages, like the cat sitting on a fence under the moon or the spider web lantern, make striking window decorations. Kids color the pumpkin, then an adult cuts out the carved shapes and backs them with tissue paper.

When daylight shines through, the carving lights up just like a real jack-o'-lantern.

    You'll need:
    • Printed carved jack-o'-lantern pages
    • Yellow and orange tissue paper
    • Craft knife (adult use only)
    • Glue stick
    • Clear tape
    How to do it:
    • Color the pumpkin, ribs and stem, leaving the carved areas uncolored.
    • An adult cuts out the carved shapes with the craft knife.
    • Glue tissue paper behind the openings.
    • Trim around the pumpkin and tape it to a sunny window.

Mixing orange and yellow tissue gives a flickering candle effect.

  2. Pumpkin life cycle wheel

Five pages in this collection follow a pumpkin from start to finish - the seed in the soil, the first sprout, the bee visiting a flower, the tiny new pumpkin and the ripe one on the vine. Print them small and turn them into a spinning wheel kids can use to tell the story.

It's a hands-on fit for preschool and early science lessons on how plants grow.

    You'll need:
    • The five growth pages, printed at about 40 percent size
    • Two paper plates
    • One split pin fastener
    • Scissors and glue
    • Crayons or colored pencils
    How to do it:
    • Draw lines to divide one plate into five equal sections.
    • Color the five pictures and glue them in order around that plate.
    • Cut a wedge-shaped window from the second plate.
    • Join the plates in the center with the split pin and spin to see each stage.

Ask kids to guess what comes next before they turn the wheel.

  3. Pumpkin patch shoebox diorama

Turn an old shoebox into a tiny pumpkin patch using the scarecrow scene as a backdrop. The simple single pumpkins, the pile of funny-shaped gourds and the basket of mini pumpkins all make great stand-up pieces.

Younger kids can color while older siblings handle the cutting and folding.

    You'll need:
    • A shoebox turned on its side
    • Printed scarecrow, pumpkin and gourd pages
    • Scissors and glue
    • Shredded paper or raffia for hay
    How to do it:
    • Color the scarecrow scene and glue it to the inside back of the box.
    • Color and cut out the pumpkins and gourds, leaving a small tab at the bottom of each.
    • Fold the tabs back and glue them to the floor of the box.
    • Scatter shredded paper around the pumpkins for hay.

Cut-out kids from the pumpkin patch pages make fun little visitors.

  4. Mix-and-match jack-o'-lantern faces

The happy, sleepy, surprised, winking and goofy jack-o'-lantern pages all share the same big pumpkin shape. That means you can cut them into flaps and turn them into a silly face-swapping flip book.

Toddlers love flipping the pieces, and older kids can invent names for every new face.

    You'll need:
    • The five jack-o'-lantern face pages
    • Card stock for backing
    • Glue stick and scissors
    • Stapler
    How to do it:
    • Color each pumpkin and glue it onto card stock.
    • Line up all five pages and staple them along the left edge.
    • Cut across each page twice from the right edge, stopping just before the staples.
    • Flip the top, middle and bottom flaps to mix up the faces.

A winking top with a goofy grin gets a laugh every time.

  5. Mini pumpkin doorway garland

Print the single pumpkin pages at half size and string them together for a cheerful garland. It's a simple way to decorate a doorway, mantel or classroom notice board for October.

Each child can color one pumpkin, so a class garland includes everyone's work.

    You'll need:
    • Pumpkin pages printed at half size
    • Scissors
    • Hole punch
    • Yarn or twine
    How to do it:
    • Color the pumpkins and cut them out.
    • Punch two holes near the top of each one.
    • Thread the yarn through the holes, spacing the pumpkins evenly.
    • Hang the garland across a doorway or along a shelf.

Paper leaves between the pumpkins add a nice autumn touch.

A pumpkin flower usually opens for just one morning and closes again by the afternoon. In those few hours, a bee or another pollinator has to visit, or that flower won't turn into a pumpkin.
