3 creative crafts using Hogwarts Express coloring pages

All three of these ideas use materials you probably already have at home, and none of them need anything more than basic craft supplies. They work well at the kitchen table, and the storybook idea is a good one for classrooms too.

  1. Platform 9¾ Boarding Pass

This one uses the platform trolley-through-the-wall page as a starting point - the one showing a luggage cart halfway through the brick archway. Once it's colored, cut around the trolley and brick arch to make a decorative panel, then use a small rectangle of card stock to create a hand-written boarding pass to attach alongside it. Kids can fill in their own name as the passenger, invent their destination platform, and add a fictional departure time.

It makes a great bedroom door decoration or a fun prop for imaginative play. You could laminate it if you want it to last.

    You'll need:
    • Printed and colored platform trolley page
    • Scissors
    • Small rectangle of card stock or thick paper
    • Pen or fine marker
    • Glue stick
    • Optional: laminator or sticky-back plastic
    How to do it:
    • Color the platform trolley page and cut around the trolley and arch shape
    • Cut a small rectangle of card stock roughly the size of a real train ticket
    • Write "Platform 9¾ - Hogwarts Express" at the top in neat lettering
    • Add passenger name, departure time, and any other details your child invents
    • Glue the ticket to the lower corner of the arch panel
    • Display on a bedroom door or laminate for longer-lasting play

Kids who enjoy this often want to make one for every member of the family.

  2. Hogwarts Express Journey Storybook

This idea works because the collection follows a natural story arc - from the platform and boarding scenes right through to the compartment, the highland viaduct, the arrival at the station, and the castle in the distance. Pick six to eight pages that tell that journey in order, color them, and staple them together into a little booklet. Kids can add a handwritten sentence or two at the bottom of each page describing what's happening, turning it into their own Hogwarts travel story.

It's a good activity to spread across a few days, coloring one "chapter" at a time.

    You'll need:
    • 6-8 printed and colored pages from the collection in journey order
    • Stapler or hole punch and ribbon
    • Plain paper for a cover page
    • Pencil or pen for writing
    • Optional: colored pencils for decorating the cover
    How to do it:
    • Choose pages that follow the journey: platform, boarding, compartment, viaduct, arriving at the station, castle view
    • Color each page
    • Make a simple cover from plain paper with a title your child invents
    • Stack the pages in story order with the cover on top
    • Staple along the left edge or punch holes and thread ribbon through
    • Write a sentence or two on each page to describe the scene

Older kids often enjoy writing longer descriptions - this works well as a creative writing activity too.

  3. Magical Snack Trolley Display Box

The sweets flat-lay page - the one showing pumpkin pasties, chocolate frog box, and scattered wrapped sweets arranged on a train seat - works perfectly for this craft. Color all the treats in bright, rich colors, then cut them out individually and glue them onto the sides and lid of a small cardboard box. The finished box becomes a miniature "snack trolley" that kids can use to store little items like erasers, stickers, or folded notes.

It's a good use of a page that might otherwise be tricky to display as flat wall art.

    You'll need:
    • Printed and colored magical sweets flat-lay page
    • Small cardboard box with a lid (a tea box or similar works well)
    • Scissors
    • Glue stick or craft glue
    • Optional: clear sticky-back plastic to seal the surface
    How to do it:
    • Color the sweets flat-lay page, using bright gold for the frog box, dark brown for chocolate bars, and mixed bright colors for the wrapped sweets
    • Cut out each sweet item individually, leaving a small white border
    • Arrange the cutouts across the box sides and lid before gluing
    • Glue each piece down firmly and smooth out any air bubbles
    • Optional: cover with clear sticky-back plastic for a wipe-clean finish
    • Use the finished box to store small treasures on a desk or shelf

The chocolate frog box cutout looks especially good centered on the lid.

The train used as the Hogwarts Express in the Harry Potter films is a real locomotive called the Olton Hall, built in 1937. The famous viaduct it crosses in the films is the Glenfinnan Viaduct in the Scottish Highlands - it's now one of Scotland's most visited landmarks, with thousands of people travelling there every year just to watch a steam train cross it.

There's plenty more railway adventure waiting in our full trains coloring pages collection - from classic steam engines to high speed expresses from around the world.
