Moo, oink, baa and neigh are usually some of the very first sounds a toddler learns, which makes farm animals a natural place to start coloring. Our farm animals coloring pages bring together 678 free printable designs, each one ready to download as a PDF in US Letter or A4.
Every animal has its own collection. Start with our horse coloring pages, full of foals, shaggy ponies and big working horses, then head into the farmyard for cows, pigs, sheep and goats. The chicken, duck and donkey pages complete the barnyard.
Most pages are drawn for children under five, with thick outlines and big, simple shapes that are easy for small hands. The animals are shown doing what they really do, from grazing in the meadow to dozing in the straw, and there are fuller farm scenes for older kids too. If your child loves animals, take a look at our Dogs coloring pages and Teddy Bears coloring pages as well.
Real farm animals come in far more colors than picture books suggest, so there's plenty of room to play. Here are a few ideas that work across the whole collection.
Horses are a great place to start. Try chestnut brown, golden palomino or a dappled gray made with light gray dots over white, and give the mane and tail a darker shade than the body. Any star or sock markings on the face and legs can be left white for a classic look.
On the cow pages, black or brown patches on a white coat look just like a dairy herd, but caramel brown all over works well too. Pigs don't have to be pink either. Real pigs can be ginger, spotted or black with a pale stripe, and a muddy brown splash on the legs makes any pig look right at home.
Woolly sheep look lovely in cream or soft beige rather than plain white. Hens can be chestnut red, and fluffy chicks and ducklings are a great excuse for a bright sunny yellow with orange feet and beaks.
The fields and farmyards are drawn with big open spaces, so little ones don't have to fill every inch. A couple of shades of green for the grass, golden yellow for the hay and a pale blue sky are all a scene needs.
You can always head back to our coloring pages index to browse more categories. We're adding new farm animals regularly, so check back for more foals, lambs, piglets and chicks.
